Year 2 Autumn 1

During our topic ‘Information Technology around us’ the children in Year 2 took photographs of each other, remembering their ground rules for doing this. They also recorded kind messages for each other and got creative on a drawing app.

The children know that it is important to have time away from screens and so they practised some mindfulness and being active, during our work on the ‘digital 5’.

In science we have been over to our Wildlife garden to identify living and dead things.

In English year 2 have been reading the book Dear Greenpeace to start our book we each followed instructions to make a Whale. We have acted out scenes from the book, thought about characters and thought of questions to ask.

In maths they have been making numbers in different ways using the class concrete resources from their maths baskets. They have also been partitioning numbers into tens and ones.

As part of Year 2’s work on Pirates the children learnt a pirate poem called I Wish I Was a Pirate by Tony Bradman. The children worked extremely hard to think of actions for the poem and then thought of ways they could improve their speaking and listening skills to help them maintain the interest of the audience. They then put on a Pirate Performance for their grown ups so that they could show off their new performing skills.

Year 2 have had a great start back to school! They have been reading lots of different poems, identifying the features of a poem and performing poetry. In maths they have been making numbers in different ways using the class concrete resources from their maths baskets.
